THE race for the Worcester and District Football Lea-gue Sunday Division One championship has gone down to the wire.

Needing just one point to clinch the title, Exel Star & Garter travelled to AFC Mazak where they were on the end of a 5-1 drubbing.

Mazak, who themselves were in the title race until recently, scored through Dave Collins (two), Duncan Jones, Phil Page and Lee Lison.

Perrywood Reserves took advantage of Exel's slip-up by leapfrogging over them to the top of the table for the first time this season.

They completed their programme with a 3-1 home win over Reality Rangers with goals from Mike D'Apolito, Greg Hooper and Jamie Boyle.

Exel now face a tricky fixture with Katherine Rayer Cup winners Nunnery Wood Sports this evening in Droitwich Spa when they need to avoid defeat to take the championship from Perrywood.

Nunnery themselves warmed up for the big match by hammering Kays 8-2.

Calvin Fowler netted four times and Gavin Fowler added a brace with Tom Fleming and Steve Coopey also on target. Jodie Stallard and Nick Jeynes replied for Kays.

Also in Division One, goals from Luke Badham, Ashley Harford and Craig Kitchener gave Colwall St James a 3-1 win against Malvern Premier.

In Division Two, Droitwich Spa Eagles crushed town rivals Pillar of Salt 6-1 as Jack Reynolds bagged a brace for the youngsters.

Other strikes came from Andy Hodgetts, Alex Colby, Russell Evans, James Price and Gavin Ward.

Worcester Juniors completed their season with a 4-2 victory over Oak Apple. Craig Blincoe netted twice, with Craig Weekes and Jamie Lawrence also on the scoresheet.

Earlier in the week, Rob Stone bagged two as Juniors shared six goals with CMB Sports.

In the outstanding Phipps Cup group match on Saturday, West Malvern thrashed Fernhill Heath Spurs 7-1.

Mitchell Probert netted four times and Anthony Holder bagged a hat-trick.

Bromsgrove Rovers finished their Midland Floodlit Youth League fixtures on a high note last night when they won 4-2 at Cinderford. Rovers reserves, however, lost 3-0 at home to Hednesford in the Central Conference.
