SUPPORTERS, players and club officials tried to keep their spirits high at the club's annual awards ceremony on Saturday night.

Despite defeat to Evesham chairman Tom Herbert felt the season had been a success.

He said: "We may have suffered disappointment but I still think we've had a great season."

Defender Ross Collins was voted supporters' player of the year, ahead of Paul Szewczyk and Steve Hillman.

Riad Erraji was presented with the Advertiser/Messenger player of the season award by Sports Editor Peter McKinney for his midfield ingenuity.

Steve Hillman was named players' player of the season for the second time in a row.

In the night's most emotional moment George Brookes awarded the trophy dedicated to the memory of his son, Andrew, who died at the Hillsborough disaster, to Leon Mitchell for his stunning goal against Marlow in October.

Michael McGrath won the Ashley Read award for young player of the season, while Ian Gandy was given the award for clubman of the year.

Carol Hodgekiss' hard work behind the scenes was recognised with the non-playing clubman award.

Stephanie Hewings, Michael Scott and Mark G Pullen all received awards for 25-years' life membership of the club.

Rovers' player of the season award is still up for grabs, with Arthur Appleton, Steve Frost, Matt Lowe, Paul Szewczyk and Mitchell all in the running. The result will be decided once voting is completed.
