BATSMAN Paul Bedford helped Barnt Green CC to an emphatic victory over Ludlow and South Shropshire in the second regional round of the National Knockout Cup on Sunday.

Bedford's 113 not out provided Green with the impetus the batting order needed as they cruised to victory.

Kieran Rees (45) also maintained his excellent early season form as Green notched up 270-4.

The bowlers then set about their opponents with gusto as Ludlow were bowled out for 70.

Green's spinners profited on a pitch that suited them, as Richard Illingworth took 2-7, while Lyndon Jones and Miles Illingworth, the captain's son, also did well.

Bedford capped a successful day by taking three catches.

* Illingworth is expecting to take nearly a full strength side to Kenilworth Wardens on Saturday (1pm start).

Matt Dallaway is a doubt for the match because of his recurring ankle problem.

The Barnt Green captain is expecting his side's in-form bowling attack to be given a stiff test by their Warwickshire opponents.

He said: "I hear they have a very strong batting line-up, so it's going to be a very interesting match considering our bowlers' excellent form."
