WHAT a fantastic weekend Droitwich Spa was treated to, the organisers for the 60th anniversary of VE day deserve a pat on the back for an amazing event, what a superb achievement. I understand this was the biggest celebration throughout the Midlands; I am not at all surprised.

Every aspect was first class, including shops displaying 1940s objects with price tags.

Yanks were everywhere (most speaking Black Country our kid) with Jeeps, trucks, camouflaged tents and airplane sirens and the Home Guard on patrol.

There were also citizens in authentic 1940s clothes, the British Army, RAF and Land Girls, who all watched the weekend fly past and danced to some amazing live music in the marquee, as well as a jiving to a DJ on the Sunday.

I could go on with superlatives about this weekend because it was so amazing, congratulations once again.

Just imagine if the hard work, energy and expertise involved in this wonderful event could be amalgamated with SALT.

Droitwich would be holding on to its heritage instead of Wychavon calling the shots.

One thing for certain is that we would be swimming in our Lido instead of waiting for flats to be built six months after the flowerbeds are laid. Am I being cynical or realistic?

If we have a music festival half as good as last weekend's event, then we really have a treat in store. The organisers may need some help, so get ready to roll your sleeves up and feel proud to be part of Droitwich Spa community.
