IN response to Mr Major's letter about the plight of animals at Danemere rescue centre.

We too run an animal rescue centre, taking animals into the rescue centre, neutering, vaccinating, home-checking and delivering animals to and from the vets and foster homes. We supply foster homes with food regularly and feed the animals that stay with us. This adds up to quite a sum of money. As we survive solely on donations, street collections and re-homing fees, it hardly covers what is "paid out" on each animal which passes through the rescue centre. Should we instead leave these animals on the street or let them have puppies or kittens, or pass on diseases rather than charge an adequate amount of money to cover our debts.

There are also many "long termers" that require on-going veterinary treatment for which we will never receive re-homing fees for. Should we then put them down rather than let them live out the rest of their lives in peace. If a person can't afford the re-homing fee, how can they afford the amounts of money it takes to feed and provide the quality of veterinary support it takes annually to keep an animal healthy?

I'm sure this would be Danemere's argument as well.
