A COUNTY councillor was given a bloody nose after being ousted from her Droitwich South seat in dramatic fashion.

Pam Davey, who is also vice-chairman of Wychavon District Council, contested the seat in the Droitwich East ward, due to boundary changes, and despite the area being a Tory stronghold, she came last.

Labour candidate Edgar Harwood (pictured left) polled 2,025 votes, followed by the Liberal Democrat Wendy Carter, who polled 1,658 votes.

Conservative candidate Pam Davey polled 1,653 votes.

Newly elected county councillor Edgar Harwood said: "I am delighted to have been elected as a county councillor for the Droitwich East ward. I would like to thank all those who voted for me and I look forward to representing all the people of the ward."

Edgar put his success down to his desire to oust Conservative county councillor Pam Davey after she voted with Wychavon District Council to demolish the lido.

Cllr Harwood campaigned for the county council elections on issues actually covered by the district council, but he explained: "I don't believe in three-tiers of local government. Issues such as rubbish collection would be better handled by the county council and planning would be better handled by the town council."

He added that he stood by the comments he made in an election leaflet, as covered by the Advertiser last week, which criticised Mrs Davey for letting down the town over the lido issue.

He added: "Unfortunately the future of the lido will not be decided by the county council but I will do all I can to see it reopened."

Mrs Davey said she did not wish to make a comment but added that in view of the type of campaign that was fought she would be writing a letter to the editor of the Advertiser.
