A SPA mum and her seven-year-old daughter will be getting their heart rates pumping when they take part in a charity bike ride next month.

Sacha Elsey and her daughter Alexandra, of Droitwich Spa, will be taking on the challenge of the Hearts First Worcester bike ride on Sunday, June 5 to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The healthy duo took part in the ride last year, completing the 10-mile route.

This year the Hearts First Worcester Bike Ride starts from Worcester Rugby Club and takes a 30-mile route through the north of the county, taking in Droitwich Spa and Bromsgrove.

But there will still be a ten-mile option available for families with young children. Now in its second year, the British Heart Foundation is hoping to build on the success of last year's cycle ride which attracted nearly 200 riders and raised just under £8,000 for the charity's life-saving research.

Sacha Elsey, a high school teacher, is looking forward to doing the ride again. She said: "My great aunt died from heart problems the week before last year's event so we did it for her. Alexandra was really up for the challenge and we enjoyed spending time together."

The Hearts First Worcester Bike ride kicks off Help a Heart Week (June 4-12 ), the charity's annual fundraising campaign.

Entry is £10 for adults, £5 for under 16s and £30 for a family with prizes awarded for the highest sponsorship raised.
