A FORMER Worcester News advertising rep is hoping to make a splash with his new job as sales manager for the 2005 Severn Boat Festival in the city.

Ben Groves has joined Farrier Street-based Worcester Events, which has secured a 10-year deal on the festival.

The event, due to take place at the Pitchcroft racecourse and the adjoining River Severn from July 29-31, is expected to attract 45,000 people.

Ben, who joined the firm this week, believes Worcester Events will make the festival one of the biggest family events in the country.

"I have been involved with the festival before, and so when I knew Worcester Events had secured the contract for the next decade, I was eager to be a part of it," he said.

"I would urge all local businesses to play a part by setting up a stand or taking their clients into the corporate hospitality area, which is situated on the top floor of the grandstand."
