AN angry neighbourhood watch co-ordinator has slammed police in Malvern claiming they have failed to stem a wave of vandalism.

Tim Robinson - who helped set up the Dukes Meadow Neighbourhood Watch group last summer - said vandals were repeatedly smashing windows and the glass roof at the changing rooms on the playing field off Pickersleigh Road.

A light on the basketball court has also been smashed and a safety barrier broken.

He said teenagers were responsible. They had been riding around the play area on a moped and pensioners living nearby were afraid to go out.

In one of the latest incidents, a car was left on Pickersleigh Road without tax on it for several weeks and dumped into a ditch off Dukes Meadow over the weekend.

The 55-year-old, from Pickersleigh Road, said he reported the incidents to the police and in some cases had video evidence, yet they did not seem interested.

"We feel let down and seem to be paying our council tax for nothing.

"There's no law here for these people - they're just running riot and nothing's being done.

"Quite a few residents here are quite old and they're making their lives a misery because they feel like prisoners in their own homes."

Mr Robinson said police had previously tackled the vandalism but over the past month it had been getting out of hand.

But Malvern beat management Sergeant Robert Werner-De-Sondberg said officers were responsive in dealing with Mr Robinson's complaints.

"Mr Robinson rings us on a regular basis and our beat manager responds to his concerns when they're brought to our attention."
