BEWDLEY Town are bracing themselves for a winner takes all title tussle with rivals Great Wyrley at Ribbesford Meadows this evening (kick off 6.30pm).

Craig Payton's men go into the match on the same points as their Cannock opponents but having played one game more.

And whoever emerges from the showdown with all three points will effectively clinch the West Midlands League division one title.

Payton insists whatever happens tonight, it will be a fantastic achievement for Bewdley who have already sealed promotion to the Premier Division.

"We'll be going all out to beat Great Wyrley and win the title," he said.

"That would be a massive bonus to us, but regardless of the result it's been a great season.

"For a club like us with no finances from a small town like Bewdley, being promoted to the Premier is an awesme achievement.

"And I'd just like to say thank you to the chairman, the committee and the squad of players, both from this year and the past seven years."

Bewdley are hoping for a bumper crowd at Ribbesford Meadows tonight to cheer his team on to glory.

He said: "We've had 300 programmes printed so we're hoping for a big crowd of at least 200.

"I think people will want to come along an watch the two best teams in the league battle it out for the title.

"In any other league a team that has only lost twice like us would have already won the title, but Great Wyrley have only lost once so you can tell how competitive it's been."

Bewdley will be hoping to avenge their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Great Wyrley earlier in the season, while they will also want to bouce back from the frustrating draw that saw them drop two points at Ashbourne United last weekend.

They twice fell behind to their Derbyshire based hosts.

Lewis Pountney scored their first equaliser, knocking in the rebound after a penalty he earned himself was saved.

And with time ticking down, Gavin Smith smashed in a late leveller with a 25-yard screamer.

l CHADDESLEY Corbett earned a 1-1 draw with Bromyard Town Reserves in their penultimate West Midlands League Division Two match.

Bromyard took an early lead, and Chaddesley's first attempt to equalise saw Peter Begley hit the post with a good header.

Substitute Steve Morris came on an showed how to find the back of the net with a crisp headed goal.

Manager Martin Westcott felt his side should have come away with a victory.

He said: "It took a good 20 minutes for us to get fired up. That was very disappointing. We then played some good football, but it's about scoring goals. If you cannot score you cannot win matches".

Westcott added: "It has been a long, hard season. I am sure, with a couple of additions, we could become a challenging side next season".

He said the team will need a striker unless they can sort out travel arrangements for Alagie Jarr, who has to travel from Gloucester by train.

Chaddesley's final match will be against unbeaten champions Parkfield Leisure.

The match has been switched to Parkfields' Rooker Avenue ground, because cricket has started at Longmore.

Players are asked to meet at the Land Oak for 12.15pm. Kick-off is at 2pm.

l KIDDERMINSTER Harriers Ladies ended their West Midlands Premier League campaign with a draw that keeps them third in the table.

Harriers were hoping to sign off with a victory when they came up against basement side Cosford, but were held 1-1.

Kidderminster started the game in determined mood and created a number of chances but were denied by Debbie Kelly in the Cosford goal who pulled off a string of outstanding saves.

Just before half time harriers took the lead when Lisa Stokes finished off a cross from the right when she found the back of the net from the tightest of angles.

In the 70th minute Harriers were reduced to 10 players when Lauren Haswell had to leave the field of play due to an ankle injury.

Cosford made use of the extra player as they scored an equaliser six minutes later through Amanda Vernon.

The result relegated Cosford to Division One.
