ENTERPRISING Bewdley High School sixth formers are putting a host of items up for auction tomorrow in a bid to raise more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The eight-strong team of 16 and 17-year-olds have been given 70 items, ranging from candles to computer gear, Royal Worcester plates to a Dyson vacuum cleaner, for the fund-raiser, which will be staged at the school.

Daniel Harris, Adam Borriello, Simon Higgs, Andrew Singleton, Adam Stobbart, Tom Bell, Ajay Vaid and Edward Birch collected the goods from local firms and internet companies.

The auction represents the group's swansong after a year of running a business as part of the school's Young Enterprise scheme, a practical way of teaching business skills.

"We have to liquidate our company in a month's time and wanted to give something back to the community," said 17-year-old Adam Stobbart.

The students' company staged markets to sell goods supplied by Bewdley businesses, including Forever Christmas and Tipplers, and ran cricket coaching at Stourport Leisure Centre for youngsters to help promote not only the game but also Bewdley Cricket Club.

The team also organised a three-month long snooker tournament at Pockets snooker club in Kidderminster.

The auction is open to the general public and Adam said they hoped the range of items, from small to large, would attract a large number of bidders.

Viewing for the auction will start at 6pm, with Chris Smith from Phipps and Pritchard putting the first items under the hammer at 7pm.
