BEWDLEY celebrated the 60th anniversary of Victory in Europe with a tribute flower festival, a 1940s social evening and a church service of remembrance.

St Anne's Church in the town centre was filled with 23 displays depicting aspects of wartime, created mainly by members of the town's floral art club and the women's section of the Royal British Legion.

The three-day event over the weekend attracted a steady flow of visitors, including newly re-elected Wyre Forest MP, Dr Richard Taylor.

Floral displays featured The Red Cross, the armed services, The Land Army, the WRVS and evacuees, to name just a few.

The church also hosted a remembrance service on Sunday. It was attended by the town's Royal British Legion, other service groups and the town council, led by mayor, councillor Tony Williams.

Mr Williams was also a special guest at a 1940s social organised the Legion's women's section president, Iris Styles, at the Wribbenhall Parish Rooms on Saturday evening.

The flower festival and social evening raised £250 for the Royal British Legion's national welfare fund.
