LAST weekend proved to be a record breaking one for Evesham.

Following Saturday's maximum points Birmingham League win over Redditch, the senior side smashed the club record for the highest ever score with a mammoth 428-2 off 42 overs against Studley.

Australian Mark Penter retired on 121 while new recruit Ian Suckling also left the wicket with his wicket still intact after rattling up 105.

Young wicket keeper Chris Weaver was unbeaten on 73, Francois Nel hit an aggressive 44 and 15-year-old Marcus Humpston scored his first half-century for the club.

A shellshocked Studley didn't fare much better with the bat as they finished on 107-9 from their 42-over allocation with spinners Stuart

Langstone, Richard Layton and Jamie Anderson all taking two wickets apiece in an amazing 321-run victory.

The previous afternoon, the first team made the perfect start a 37-run victory over their Worcestershire rivals.

After electing to bat, Evesham lost Nel early on but Penter (33) and Barry Cle-ments 51 began the recovery. However, the best was still to come as Neal Radford struck a stylish 81.

The hosts then lost their last five wickets for only 12 runs and finished on 201 all out.

Redditch captain Protherough's 37 was the only innings of substance after tea when all the batters got themselves in.

Tight bowling and fielding, though, managed saw the pressure get to the batting side as Radford (4-34), (Nel 3-49) and Penter (2-19) took control and dismissed the chasers for 164.

The visiting second team recorded a nine-run victory over Studley in their first league outing.

Dave Higginson top scored with 33 before Darren Key (4-63) and Matt Hutton (4-62) took the bowling honours to cap a splendid start for the Avon Street outfit.
