SILVERWARE dealers and collectors are being urged to be on their guard for offers of stolen property following a theft in Broadway.

Two silver Georgian cream jugs were taken from the back of an unlocked car in Back Lane at around 11.30am last Friday.

The pieces, measuring four inches and five inches tall respectively, are worth £800.

Other items taken from the green Mercedes estate, including a leather holdall worth £100.

Police spokesman Richard Bull said: "It is likely that, at some stage, the two jugs will find their way into the open market.

"Dealers and collectors should be on their guard as the thief - or thieves - try to pass these off as genuine items for sale.

"This theft also highlights the need for motorists to be sure that their vehicles are always left secure and not to leave valuables in their car, even if they are locked.

"There were a considerable number of people passing on foot at around the time of the theft, so it is hoped someone may have seen something suspicious."
