MATT Nicoll-Jones had a successful weekend at Croft in the AVO Ginetta Cham-pionship when he finished fifth in Sunday's point scoring final.
Nicoll-Jones was dogged by mechanical problems all weekend and a loss of power on Saturday meant he only qualified 20th from the 40+ starters on the grid.
That disappointing finish this left him ninth on the grid for the B qualifying race but he climbed up during the race to finish second - a result that earned him 12th place on the grid for the final.
The changeable conditions contributed to a number of accidents in Sunday's showdown when Nicoll-Jones managed to claw his way up to fifth and then into third on lap nine.
Unfortunately, the race had to be stopped and the result was taken from the previous lap.
This was still a strong result with good points including an extra point for fastest lap that has seen Nicoll-Jones extend his lead to 49 points, six clear of his closest rival.
Richard Austin enjoyed an even better weekend when claiming third place n the final.
The next round is at Thru-xton on May 28 and 29.
