THERE was a moderate turnout of dinghies at Arden Sailing Club last Sunday.

The first race at Defford was the third in the Arden Trophy Series and Ralph Evans (Solo) looked poised for a perfect start when a gust put him into irons.

The Enterprises of Nial Campbell, crewed by Jane Smee, and Stuart Stevens and Val Jolly, powered past him.

Subsequently, a near capsize for Stevens saw him drop to third and, try as he might, Evans had to be satisfied with second as Campbell once again showed invincible form to take the honours.

Race two was for Enterprises only and turned out to be a walkover for Campbell and Smee after Stevens damaged his boat.

The third race of the day for the Solos was sailed in a decreasing wind. Potts took an early lead form Evans but, after much swapping of places, it was the latter that crossed the line first 90 seconds ahead of his closest rival.

For those who have missed the current training course, the club is staging a second open Day on Sunday, June 12 as a recruiter for the next course in July.
