A BIKER who has realised his dream of setting up a travel company with a difference now wants to help others achieve their aspirations.

Lee Mears, of Cheviot Close, Blackpole, has set up Kudu Expeditions to take groups of 10 on motorcycling adventures of a lifetime to Africa. The excursions will take in at least seven countries and last from weeks to months.

Mr Mears, aged 30, a former Army captain who grew up in Malvern, left the forces to start up the business.

"It seemed like a logical step for me to take, and as I had saved money during the Army, it wasn't too difficult," he said.

"I love Africa, having been there many times, and I have a passion for motorbikes. Also, my army training puts me in good stead to organise a more extreme holiday for bikers. Travelling through Africa on a bike is an experience like nothing else."

There are certain stipulations though. First of all, travellers must have held a motorbike licence for at least 12 months and must been in good physical health.

The bikes themselves can be hired from Kudu for an extra cost, and there is a two-day induction period where travellers will be made aware of any dangers. Lee will be taking the first group out in October to Ghana on an eight-week trip, with highlights including the markets of Marrakech, a ride through the Sahara desert, and a safari in Ghana.

Those who want to support Africa charities on the way will be able to set up official sponsorship through Kudu.

"We are in the process of forging links with charity organisations who are dedicated to helping Africa's poor and disadvantaged," added Lee.

"There are many amazing people and organisations striving to make a difference in Africa, and while I obviously hope the business will be a success for me, I would also like to help out others at the same time."
