A COUNTY MP who was one of the leading protesters against a controversial television programme has said he is disappointed after TV watchdogs cleared it.
Ofcom received more than 16,000 complaints about the BBCs Jerry Springer: the Opera when it was shown in January.
Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff was one of the most vocal critics of the BBC for showing the programme and asked the director-general to have it axed.
It featured a total of 3,168 f-words, 297 c-words and portrayed Jesus Christ proclaiming that he was 'a bit gay'.
But the regulator has said no parts of its standards code were broken and that the show 'was an important work and commentary on modern television'.
"I'm disappointed Ofcom has given the BBC a clean bill of health. I thought it was worth a rap across the knuckles," said the recently re-elected Conservative.
"In years to come we'll see the show like 1960s buildings - they may have won lots of awards at the time but now we wish they never happened."
