LABOURERS are busy making improvements to a car park in the Malvern Hills as part of a £30,000 Government-funded project.

Work began at the British Camp car park off the A449 Malvern to Ledbury Road earlier this month and involves an island being constructed in the carriageway.

A right-turn lane will also be installed for traffic coming from Ledbury to turn into the car park and, similarly, a right-turn lane into Jubilee Drive for vehicles coming from Malvern.

It is a joint scheme run between the Malvern Hills Conservators and the Worcestershire Highways Partnership, with the cash coming from the office of the deputy Prime Minister's Liveability Fund.

"At the moment, the car park is on the other side to the toilet, caf and hotel there across this quite busy road," said Conservators' director Ian Rowat.

"By putting in this island and making these changes we hope it'll make it a lot safer."

Work is expected to be completed by the end of May.
