THE funeral has taken place at St James' of one of Staunton's older residents, Albert (Bert) Panting, aged 80 years. Mr Panting was born at Redmarley but lived at Staunton all his life.

After leaving school, he worked on a farm for the rest of his working life. In recent years, he had moved into a flat in Johnstone Close and had a mobile chair to enable him to get out. He is survived by his brother and sister. The service was conducted by The Rev. Canon John Evans and the organist was Giles Turner. Neighbours and friends attended and burial followed in the churchyard.

The coach trip to see the bluebells in the Forest of Dean by members of Staunton and District Over-60s club was very pleasant but unfortunately the bluebells were not out.

However, Holly and Jim Chapman had a lovely tea waiting for the club when they arrived back at the Old Chapel, Hartpury. The May meetings include music and movement with Gary and a lunch out.

In June the club will celebrate their anniversary with a service attended by some of the children from Staunton and Corse CE School and there will be an outing to Weavers-Walk Mill at Kidderminster. The club leader, Nan Beavan was pleased to welcome two new members from Maisemore at the last meeting.
