A BLIND teenager who can not afford to go to a £23,000-a-year specialist college is hoping MP Mike Foster will today back his case for council funding.

Jeremy Vernaeve, of Barnes Way, off Bath Road, Worcester, developed a condition known as Stargardts, two years ago and has since lost 90 per cent of his vision.

He is receiving extra learning support at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College - but, his mother claims, is 'struggling'.

Her pleas for Jeremy to attend the city's RNIB college have failed because the county council says his learning support is sufficient where he is.

The 13-year-old's story was featured in Tuesday's Worcester News and his mother, Julie Gibbon, has arranged a meeting today with Worcester MP Mr Foster to put forward her case.

"I'm hopeful we can make some real headway," said Ms Gibbon. "I want the best for my son."

Ms Gibbon has also been contacted at the Royal Grammar School, where she works, and had £200 pledged towards Jeremy's school fees.
