CONTROVERSIAL plans to alter a castle and museum will be discussed today.

Worcestershire County Council's proposals to create a new restaurant and caf at Hartlebury Castle and Museum have been met with opposition from some parish councillors.

Chairman Derek Stocker said that converting the old-fashioned kitchen would destroy an important feature.

"This would mean the destruction of an excellent exhibition gallery," he said.

Hartlebury Parish Council has no objections to plans to build a lift at the site.

Museum officer Robin Hill said: "We are very happy to meet with representatives of local community groups to take them through the plans we have for the building, which are essential to ensure the future viability of the museum."

The plans will be discussed at the castle, near Stourport-on-Severn, at 2pm.
