THE final game of the season in the Soccer Site Malvern League season took place on Sunday when Oak Allstars met Bishops Frome in the Senior Cup final at New Street, Ledbury.

Oak Allstars had played second best to their rivals for the last two seasons, with Bishops Frome doing the double last season and winning the league again this season after the previous week's exciting encounter. But the tables were turned in this game with Oak Allstars giving a really determined performance which saw them triumph by 4-1, despite having to play the last 21 minutes with only 10 men.

Oak Allstars won the toss and elected to kick up the slope, the first 15 minutes saw both teams testing each other out.

In the 20th minute, the breakthrough came for Oak Allstars with an excellent goal. A superb ball from Neil Gardiner split the defence, James Dean ran through and made no mistake from 12 yards.

With Bishops Frome having difficulty judging the slope, with several intended crosses sailing well over the Oak crossbar, it was Oak Allstars who started to have the better chances. In the 35th minute, Mark Toman had a good effort saved by keeper Simon Wall, who a minute later made a brave save at the feet of James Dean.

Oak Allstars had a dream start to the second half when, in the 46th minute, Neil Gardiner crossed for Lee Clueit to gleefully smash the ball home from six yards out.

Play then swung from end to end with Oak Allstars having a goal disallowed for pushing in the 56th minute. Then Mark Toman shot narrowly wide before a Wayne Hoskins header also just flashed past the post at the other end. Bishops Frome were handed a lifeline in the 69th minute when Adrian Jones, who had put in a towering performance at the heart of the Oak Allstars defence, was adjudged to have handled on the line and he was sent off before Jason Westmacott pulled a goal back with his spot-kick.

Bishops Frome began to press forward but in the 75-minute it became 3-1. Mark Toman was bought down on the edge of the area and the resulting free-kick was parried by Simon Wall. As the ball dropped free the onrushing Chris Stone firstly fell over in the melee that followed but somehow as he rolled into the net, he managed to take the ball with him.

In the 76th minute came the moment that probably decided the game. Bishops Frome pushed forward and Chris Jefferson sent in a fierce shot which hit the post and rebounded to Darren Lynch in front of an open goal but he put his shot well wide.

In the 82nd minute, Bishops Frome's Dave Gilbert saw his header hit the bar from a Matt Beale corner and then Beale saw a fierce cross hacked off the line.

Oak Allstars still came forward, rather than defend their lead, and Neil Gardiner hit the Bishops Frome bar from the edge of the area before, in the 88th minute, frustration finally got the better of Beale and he was sent off for a second caution.

In the last minute, it was fitting that man-of-the-match Lee Clueit should round things off, netting a crashing free-kick from the edge of the area.

In the morning's final league game in division two, Ganglands entertained Keys Victoria and they romped home 5-0 with goals from Dean Watson, Gordon Mansell, Tom Bethell, Clive Hill and Rigga Portsmouth.
