A YOUTH hit a middle-aged woman in the face, cutting her lip, in a road-rage attack police described as cowardly.
The attack happened in Spring Lane, Malvern Link, at about 6.30pm on Monday. The incident began in Moat Way when the woman drove past the shop, where a car with four youths in it was parked.
The youths made rude gestures and then started to follow her into Pound Bank Road, Mayfield Road, Roman Way and Spring Lane.
The car overtook her and slammed on its brakes, forcing her to stop. She got out to remonstrate and the driver emerged, hurled obscene abuse at her and hit her.
The attacker is described as having up to a dozen earrings in his right ear, including one described as a big looped ring.
Aged about 19, he was wearing a large coin-type ring, a cap with a long peak, a white t-shirt and jeans. The victim said he smelled of alcohol.
The car is described as an old Ford-type car, blue or grey, with rubbed-down paintwork.
Police spokesman Richard Bull said: "This was a particularly cowardly attack on an unsuspecting woman that has caused her considerable upset. We're very keen to trace the assailant and the others in the car with him."
