WORCESTER League division one champions Powick made a brave challenge to win the Martley Cup but were denied by higher-graded Martley Spurs last Friday evening.
POWICK 0, MARTLEY SPURS 1
Powick started well and put Martley under a lot of pressure but could not find a way through. Chris Collins gave Martley a first-half lead but Powick did not lie down.
In fact, they threatened enough for Martley's keeper Craig Gomersall to be awarded the man-of-the-match.
Both sides were also given a brand new set of kit, courtesy of sponsors Worcester Tools and Fixings, before the final at St George's Lane. The trophy presentations were made by the firm's manager Tony Richards.
The competition has raised £200 for both the County Air Ambulance and Wichenford Day Centre this season, as well as £100 for Hereford General Hospital's intensive care unit.
