Charlotte Powell got back on a quad bike for the first time this week after breaking her back in an accident two years ago.

The 24-year-old has agreed to take part in a safety film to prevent others from suffering a similar injury.

Charlotte, from Colwall, was told she might never walk again after the accident at a friend's house in Dymock in 2003.

But she made a full recovery and has now agreed to appear in a new safety DVD with leading stunt bike rider Matt Coulter, also known as the Kangaroo Kid.

It will feature clips of Matthew's stunts, followed by guidance on the correct way to ride a quad bikes and the safety precautions that should be taken.

Charlotte, a nursery nurse, will talk about her accident and how it could have been prevented. She was not wearing a helmet when she fell off and had little experience of riding a quad.

"I think it would be a good thing for people to watch the DVD - it's just about getting people to be more careful and be aware of what the bikes can do," she said.

"If I'd seen something like this beforehand, I probably wouldn't have got on the bike."

Quad bikes have hit the headlines in recent years with rock star Ozzy Osbourne and comedian Rik Mayall both suffering serious injuries in accidents.

Matthew said it was crucial that people were better educated on using quad bikes safely.

"Quads are getting hugely popular and it's really quite crazy that people are getting on these things with no real training," he said.

"People like Charlotte have had horrific accidents and all these sort of things could be avoided with proper training and education.

"If there's anyone who should do it, it's probably me, because people see my shows and then they might try to go home and do what I do."

Matthew said he had asked Charlotte to take part in the film as she knew first-hand the effects of a quad bike accident.

"People will take notice of her because she speaks from experience," he said.

The DVD is expected to be completed by July when it will go on general release.
