THE annual Foley Golf Challenge, played against the Sand Hogs Ancient Golf Society, was contested in pairs and greensomes on Friday and singles on Saturday.

The pairs and greensomes were played at the Bank House on a cold and blustery afternoon. With many of the Hogs players being members of the Bank House, it was no surprise that they ran out winners 5-3. This gave them a narrow 10-6 lead going into the second day.

The singles competition at Puckrup Hall was very close. The early matches were very tight, the middle games were going the way of the Foley so a close match was on the cards. As the matches came in it was nip and tuck, points being spread evenly to both teams.

The Foley team just edged in front and it was all down to the final two matches.

The Foley's Mark Berry gained a half against Darren Handy to win the trophy for the fifth time in seven years.

The challenge for next year was laid down by the new Foley captain, Mike Cavilla and duly accepted by the incoming Hog captain Taff Davies.

The outgoing captain Duncan McKerracher thanked both sets of players, Hogs' captain Alistair Symonds and the Red Lion and Foley Arms Hotel for the excellent food and hospitality.
