MALVERN Town cruised to a 4-0 Worcester Infirmary Cup triumph against former local West Midlands premier division rivals Bromyard Town at New Street, Ledbury, on Wednesday evening.

The opening 25 minutes of the game was competitively set as both teams cancelled out each other, with only long-range shots causing little trouble.

It was in the 25th minute that Malvern struck the opening goal, arguably the best shot of the game, a 20-yard volley from Nathan Jukes which flew past Barry McLean in the Bromyard goal.

Immediately after the restart, Malvern were forced to substitute their captain Craig Williams for Ian Stevenson, who, a minute later grabbed a second goal, following some confusion in the Bromyard defence.

In the closing stages of the first-half, a well-worked move by Malvern led to a simple header at the back post for Dave Cannon to head home for a 3-0 interval lead.

An even opening to the second-half was broken after 57 minutes when Stevenson notched his second goal of the game, slotting the ball past McLean after another well-worked move to make the score 4-0.

Bromyard had chances to pull back the arrears with opportunities for Rob Woodward and Carl Fairhurst, but Paul Wyatt in the Malvern Town goal was able to keep a clean sheet and the Midland Alliance side collected the trophy.
