WORCESTER City chairman Dave Boddy believes the club's Nationwide North status is secure following Altrincham's play-off success.

The Robins gained promotion to the Nationwide Conference yesterday after defeating Eastbourne Borough 2-1 in the Nationwide North/South play-off final at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.

It means relegated Conference side Forest Green Rovers will enter Nationwide North, providing Northwich Victoria manage to meet ground grading standards by May 31.

It was feared Worcester could be forced to compete in the alternative southern division had Kettering gained promotion.

Boddy said: "I always thought we would be in the Conference North next season. It's now just a question of whether Forest Green are going to enter the league.

"They have applied to be in Conference North, but there are doubts over Northwich's ground which means Forest Green stay up. But I think we are guaranteed a place regardless of that situation.

"I'm pleased for Altrincham. There's been a lot of spirit between the two clubs since we were both in the Conference."
