Regarding the letter by Malcolm Meikle responding to the Bishop of Worcester and his support for the gipsies.

I offer the following. Christian teaching must always transcend the laws of any national state and point to God's love for all mankind.

In this sense it can never be truly impartial and by its very nature, the church is the structure of a community that is under the authority of no national state, but is under the authority of, and accountable to, God alone.

Therefore, it can and always must speak out against injustice, whether caused by the laws of the state or otherwise.

That surely is part of the democratic process?
