Tenbury United 0 Great Wyrley 4

AFTER holding their own for the first hour, Tenbury conceded four goals in the final third of the game to leave the West Midlands League Division One leaders, winners by a flattering margin.

After a shaky start the United looked to be on for a good result until two quick goals, one a sweet shot from outside the box, but the second a very contentious effort left them struggling. The protests to the goal left the home team playing the final period with ten men after Aaron Morris was sent off for appealing too strongly.

Tenbury were over-run in the opening ten minutes and could have been behind, but then changed their formation to put an extra man in midfield which changed the complexion of the game. The game was now confined to midfield with few chances for either side.

After the first goal, the home side were still regrouping when the ball went over the bye-line, the home side stopped playing but a Wyrley player crossed the ball into the box and they were two down. The depleted side held out for about fifteen minutes but the introduction of fresh legs by the away side made the difference and they added two more goals in the final ten minutes to give the final score-line a false look.

In midweek Tenbury visited local-rivals Clee Hill in the semi-final of the Tenbury Shield and bowed out of the cup following a narrow 2-1 defeat. The win gave Clee revenge for a 1-0 defeat in the final last year.

In a competitive match Tenbury took the lead through Richard Wozencroft but then gave away an own goal before the break to tie the score. The game was decided in the closing stages when Craig Tommey netted the winner.
