A COMPOSER is hoping his new tune will turn as many heads as the Jerry Springer show - after landing the job of writing its theme music.

Paul Farrer, manager of West Malvern-based film and television music company Music Mint, was approached by the producers of the show's British version to come up with the music earlier this year.

The programme - which follows the same format as the US version - is expected to hit television screens shortly, broadcasting five mornings a week on ITV.

It took Mr Farrer about two weeks to write the tune, which he finished last month and describes as a departure from regular daytime television music.

"It was quite fun really - they wanted it hard-edged with lots of drums and guitars.

"It was a real challenge though because it's a programme people have seen a lot of before so it's got a ready audience and you don't want to disappoint them."

It is not the first time he has been involved in such big-name projects, having written the theme music for television quiz show The Weakest Link, among others.

He is also putting the finishing touches to music for a new antiques quiz show hosted by Carol Vorderman - The Golden Lot - due to start next month.

He has attempted to give the tune a contemporary edge as well as an 'antique' feel with instruments such as harpsichords.

"It's been hectic because I've been doing both tunes at the same time so flitting from one to the other has been a bit of a challenge because they're so different," he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Farrer is busy constructing a media centre at Raglan House in Malvern's Westminster Bank.

Builders have now reached first-floor level and it is hoped to be completed by August.

It will house two recording studios, with studio production rooms for animation and video for up to six small businesses on the second floor.

The basement will be home to the Leapfrogs pre-school playgroup, with two self-contained flats on the third floor.
