DROITWICH rider Chris Jones showed his increasing maturity with an incident free race in the fifth round of the British 125 Grand Prix Championship at Ireland's Mondello Park over the weekend.

Jones, aged 14, completed the round in fifth place after a display of controlled riding on his Honda RS125.

The finish means the Droitwich Spa High School pupil, who crashed off in the first three rounds while riding for his Red Bull Honda team, has finished the last two races in the championship.

He said: "I'm pleased to have completed another race in the points for Honda.

"It would have been nice to have finished a little higher up but this is a new circuit for me.

"It's all part of the challenge in the steep learning curve of competing in my first British 125GP Championship season.

"I achieved what I set out to do and collected a few more points which has moved me up into the top ten of the series overall."

The Honda rider qualified for the main race seventh on the starting grid, after recording a lap-time of one minute and 47.512 seconds.

Jones was forced to fight his way through the traffic after slipping two places down the order after a poor start.

However, he finished the race strong, over taking four riders and coming in nine seconds behind eventual winner Rob Guiver.

The rookie's fifth place finish ensured that Jones moved into the championship's top ten.
