A HEAD-on collision between two vehicles left a woman trapped in her car and caused major tailbacks for rush-hour commuters.

The accident, around 5.15pm on the A443 near Holt Heath, meant both lanes were closed while emergency services were at the scene.

A green Citroen AX Dimen-sion and silver Volkswagen Passat were involved in the accident, and one lane of traffic was eventually cleared just after 6pm.

The female driver of the Citroen was temporarily trapped in her car during the collision, before fire crews from Droitwich and Worcester freed her.

She was taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in a 'non-serious' condition.

Commuters faced a queue of more than two miles until the wreckage was fully cleared - at around 7.15pm - and many motorists turned around and took alternative routes.
