LAST year I was quite critical of the miserable efforts Droitwich had made to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Landings.
I was quite pleased when it was announced Droitwich was to organise a whole weekend dedicated to the forties, coinciding with VE Day anniversary. Plans were announced early, good people selected to organise the different events, period re-enactment societies approached, no matter how it was going to turn ou, Droitwich was going to give its all!
Oh boy, did they give it all. I have never been so proud to live and belong to a town that could produce such a marvellous weekend as this.
Droitwich, with some of its olde worlde charm still intact, seemed to fall back sixty years alongside the groups of folk trying to give us an insight of life, as it was at the end of the war.
The balance of activity was wonderful, full marks and many thanks to everybody who selflessly contributed to the weekend.
Many thanks also to the planning of the service of remembrance, it was a fitting conclusion to a weekend of activities, celebrations and memories. It reminded us why we were really there...it was perfect.
