POLICE officers continued their drive to rid Bromsgrove of drugs with a screening of nightclubbers.

Ten town police officers were involved in Operation Marketplace at Euphoria nightclub, in Worcester Road, last Thursday night.

The operation involved the use of a drugs analyser machine which was bought by the district's crime and disorder reduction partnership. As people entered the nightclub they were screened to see if they had recently been in contact with a controlled drug.

Officers screened 260 people and one person was arrested for the possession of Class A drugs. The offender has been bailed pending further enquiries.

This was the first time officers in Bromsgrove had done a large scale operation using the analyser and it proved it be a success.

Bromsgrove community safety officer PC Andy Holliday, who led the operation, said: "The evening was an example of how officers in the district are determined to tackle the drugs market in Bromsgrove."

He added: "Bromsgrove does not have major issues with drugs as the night's operation showed, with only one arrest for 260 persons checked it is a clear indication of the level of use in the town.

"However we are determined to make Bromsgrove a town which is relatively drug free and these operations will continue in all licensed premises across the town and district."

PC Holliday also commended the nightclub's stance against drugs and added that the club's management team had been fully supportive and very proactive in its approach to tackling issues around drugs.
