GLOUCESTERSHIRE ladies, including Broadway's Linda Carruthers, triumphed at last week's ELGA South West Division clash held at Wrag Barn in Wiltshire.

Monmouth were easy victims on the first day, Wiltshire were then defeated 5-4 before the ladies overcame Glamorgan by the same score.

Captain Jenny May, said: " Those overall scores just don't indicate how tough individual matches were right through, or how nail-bitingly close the matches against Wiltshire and Glamorgan were.

"We have an exciting team - four teenagers and four, shall we say, a little older! Well balanced, and looking forward to the next hurdle."

The next tie is a Divisional contest at Bristol & Clifton GC on July 21.

Carruthers remained unbeaten all week in both singles and foursomes encounters starting with a 3 and 1 and two up wins against Monmouthshire.

There followed a 3 and 2 foursomes win the next day and a similar margin of victory in the afternoon singles.

Carruthers and Joanne Hodge then overcame their Glamorgan opponents 4 and 3 but an incredible sixth straight win was denied the Broadway ace when her third singles match ended all-square.

None of Broadway's contingent figured in the final shake-up at last Sunday's Junior Championships at Filton that was won by Long Ashton's Chris Wood.

Ed Kennedy, Peter Stedman and Chris O'Hagan will be hoping for better fortune at Knowle on Saturday when the Glouc-estershire County Amateur title will be up for grabs.

The trio carded net scores of 142, 152 and 153 respectively, while clubmate Oliver Coombes totalled 151 for the 36 holes.
