THE Vale Golf and Country played host to local rivals Evesham on one of the windiest days on record.

Such was the intensity of the conditions that it was decided to play off the shorter yellow course and even then this proved too much for many of the players.

The shaping of the fairways into a much tighter course along with greens that were faster than those at the British Masters soon took their toll.

Evesham have won this fixture for the last few years and it was a tremendous effort by the home club's players to finally overturn the visitors by a 6-0 margin.

Such was the domination that all the games were finished by the 15th hole!

Junior members have had a tough month with four matches but three wins and a draw sees them vying for contention within their division.

There are many rising stars within the side with several players worthy of mention.

However, the outstanding achievement over the past few weeks goes to Andrew Marks who managed to cut his handicap by eight shots within a couple of weeks.

He then got the better of his dad, Anthony, by 16 shots in a club medal tournament.

Sam Watts won the Claret Cup with a gross 74 on countback from Joe Woods. The top pair were the only players in a field of more than 100 to play below their handicaps.
