NORTH Bromsgrove High School pupil Richard Gurney tasted success in the latest stage of the Nick Faldo series last week.
Gurney, aged 17, won the under-18s event at Woburn Golf and Country Club.
The series pinpoints and nurtures the cream of Britain's young golfers.
Despite suffering from a bad back Gurney beat strong competition from Richard Haylock to win with a one-over-par score of 73.
Gurney held par on the first nine holes, but dropped a shot on the tenth.
A birdie at the 11th hole put Gurney back on track.
However, despite dropping a show the Bromsgrove golfer had done enough to secure victory.
