EVESHAM'S junior boys' squad is celebrating after winning an impressive seven events at Shrewsbury Regatta last Sunday.

The J14 quad of Will Tew, Rory Sullivan, Ollie Staite and Dan Sadler, coxed by Dan Barnes, were on top form winning their final against Bewdley RC by four lengths, a tribute to the hard work put in by the boys and their coaches, Robin Walker and Roger Hutchings.

It was an all-Evesham final in the J14 single sculls with Sullivan and Tew battling it out with the latter taking first place and showing the class that gave him silver at the Inter-Regional Championships.

One of the most exciting finals of the day was provided by the J13 quad. Having beaten Worcester to get to the final, Tom Noble, Ben Farrar, Jon Farrar and Jordan Bunyan, coxed by Dominic Mathews, raced neck and neck the whole of the way down the 600m course to finish in a dead heat with Queens Park HS.

The two crews then had to turn back to the start for a re-row when again there was nothing between the crews until the Evesham quad put on a spurt in their last few strokes to win by a whisker.

Impressive

The win was the more impressive because three of the four boys had already rowed to victory in other events.

Noble won the J13 single sculls, beating some stiff competition from Worcester RC, Liverpool Victoria RC, Stourport BC and Queens Park, while Ben and Jon Farrar triumphed in the double sculling event.

The Junior 11 boys added two pots to the winning tally as Robert Bonham and Lewis Giles teamed up to take the double sculls.

The former also teamed up with Andre Roberts, Toby Harris and David Mant to win the coxed quad event.

The success puts the boys on a sound footing for their next major event - the National Schools Regatta at Nottingham on Friday, May 27.

It was a double celebration for three of the winning boys as their mums, Tina Bonham, Theresa Roberts and Jane Sullivan, were in the four that overcame Stourport in the Veterans B Coxed Fours.
