ANNA Bailey won a gold medal at the Italian Indoor Championships in Rome.
Coached by Evesham's Eddie Fletcher, the Hanley Swan world champion was one of three British competitors in action.
Despite a recurrent bout of sciatica, the member of the Old Wrecks club put in a respectable time of 7.28.9 in the women's 50+ category for the race distance of 2000m, beating her nearest opponent by more than 90m when setting a new championship best.
The Evesham Golden Mile takes place on Saturday, July 9 when competitors can take part in a one-mile (1607m) race and a one-minute challenge.
The annual event will be staged at the town's rowing cub and anyone interested in taking part is asked to contact Eddie Fletcher on 01386 40050 or by e-mail at eddie@fletchersportscience.co.uk
