THE miserable start to the season of Cookley firsts and seconds continued on Saturday and both teams are still searching for their first win.

The first team at least managed to salvage a losing draw at home to Belbroughton to keep them two points off the bottom of the Division Two table.

Andy Parker did his best to stem the run flow taking 4-57 at Lea Lane but the visitors' 252-7 (Hayward 94) was always likely to prove a stern test for the villagers.

And so it proved with opener John Martin run out for 0 and then Parker and Lee Shewry also going cheaply before Kiwi John Blakely and Robbie Perkins steadied the ship with a decent partnership.

Once they went though any chance of reaching the target went although skipper Adam Nicholls did his best to hold things together.

Following their eight-wicket defeat to Belbroughton, the second team are firmly rooted to the foot of the Division Two 2nd XI table with just four points to show for their efforts.

Only skipper Paul Cartwright came out of the second team game with any credit thanks to an unbeaten patient 42.

A total of 157 was never going to be enough and the home team cruised to their target with eight wickets to spare thanks largely to Jessop's 74.
