FROM Division One of the Midland Combination to the Southern League Premier Division - that's the 30-year journey taken by Richard Porter during his time covering the club's fortunes.

Richard's dedication was rewarded at the end of the past season when he was presented with a salver by Common Road chairman Jim Cockerton.

Richard, who has served as both football and general secretary, turned his hand to radio reporting 22 years ago and he now ensures the club's information line is updated regularly.

Highlights of his tenure in the press box include seeing half-a-dozen players progress through to the Football League, United's double winning triumph in 1992 and success in the FA Vase.

The club's latest promotion was the icing on Richard's connection with the club and the smiles on the faces of the fans summed up exactly what it meant to everyone at the club.
