PLANNERS have given the thumbs-up for a video and distribution business to use outbuildings on its premises for storing video tapes and DVDS.

Kate Preston, who runs Double Vision Video Ltd at Halfkey Farm, Halfkey Road, Malvern, applied to Malvern Hills District Council for permission to use a double garage on the site for storing the items.

The company - which Mrs Preston manages with her father John Griffiths - supplies blank media for occasions such as weddings and promotional material for organisations such as universities.

Planners unanimously approved the scheme at a meeting in the town last night, where they also passed another application to change the use of the pump house on site and store for a work space. The business has been running for about six years and previously the items were stored at Mrs Preston's husband John's business H Preston Professional Video in the town's Worcester Road.

However, storing the videos on site will allow her to juggle work with looking after her children.

One resident raised concerns about traffic generation with hourly van movements from the site but, speaking at last night's meeting on behalf of the applicants, Robert Jolly of Wall James and Davies, disputed the point.

"It is almost an entirely silent operation and traffic generation really is minimal," he said.

"The application for conversion of the pump house will also give that building a new lease of life."
