UPTON'S Olympic three-day event champion Leslie Law has been named on the British team for the European Championships.

The competition is due to be held on home turf at the Blenheim Pet-plan three-day event in Oxfordshire from September 8 until 11.

As host nation, Britain, a dominant force at the championships in recent times, are entitled to field 12 riders, eight individuals and a team of four.

They are going for a record sixth consecutive title win and will be a strong fancy for success.

Law, 40, has been named with a choice of two rides -- Coup de Couer, third at the Kentucky three-day event in the USA last month, and his Athens gold medal partner Shear L'Eau, who has been forgiven the uncharacteristic hiccup he suffered at Badminton recently.

The Worcestershire star is joined by Pippa Funnell on Primmore's Pride, William Fox-Pitt on Tamarillo and Jeanette Brakewell on the great veteran Over to You, now 17. Law was in good form at the Aston-le-Walls one-day event, near Daventry, where he scored two wins.

He headed an intermediate section on the highly promising Kif D Estruval, winner of three of his five starts this season and making only his second full outing at this level.

Law's second win came on the six-year-old Perryfields Hugh who finished on his dressage score to head a novice section in style and add to his win at Belton Park last month.

He then came close to making it a hat-trick on his open intermediate ride Another Garrison, but two show jumps down cost the pair a win.
