WORCESTER referee Steve Dorr is fast making a name for himself in football after winning his second promotion this year.

Just three months after becoming an assistant referee in the Premiership, Dorr has had to relinquish that post after being selected as one of 50 officials to referee in the Football League.

Last season the 34-year-old was taking charge at Nationwide Conference matches featuring the likes of Hereford United and Forest Green Rovers.

Now he will be mixing it among the professional ranks and will be over-seeing matches in the Coca-Cola Championship, League One and League Two.

For Dorr, also chairman of Worcester Referees Society, it is another step up the ladder towards his dream of refereeing in the Premiership.

"I am pleased. It's something I have worked hard for over a good number of years," he said.

"It's great for me and great for Worcester. I am just going to try and represent the people and Worcester Referees Society the best way I can. I need to reassess targets now and where I want to go but my ultimate aim is to referee on the Premier League."

Dorr, who is on a 12-month contract, knows his ability and performance will dictate his progress in the game.

He added: "It's a fair system. It's purely based on ability. I believe the best people come through."

Society chairman since 2001, Dorr says he owes his success to his father Norman, himself a former referee.

Dorr began his career in 1985 and has had his father close by on his journey through the ranks.

"Without his help and influence, there's absolutely no way I would have achieved what I have," Dorr said.

"He comes along with me and supports. He's also very good at keeping my feet firmly on the ground and gives me food for thought to reassess targets."
