HANLEY Swan's world champion Anna Bailey picked up gold at the Italian Indoor Rowing Championships held at the Palazzetto della Sport di Viale Tiziano in Rome.
Old Wrecks member Anna, coached by Evesham's Eddie Fletcher of Fletcher Sport Science, was one of three British competitors who took part.
Temperatures were around 29C in the sports hall with no air conditioning but despite a recurrent bout of sciatica, Anna put in a respectable time of 7.28.9 in the Women's 50+ category for the 2000m.
She beat her nearest opponent by over 90m, taking gold and setting a new championship record in the process.
The Evesham Golden Mile, now an annual event, will be held at Evesham Rowing Club on July 9, with both a one-mile (1607m) race and a one-minute challenge. Anyone interested should contact Eddie on 01386 40050.
