WORCESTER Nomads 1st XI played Bromyard at Bransford on Saturday in the WCL division two and were given a master class by them, losing by 60 runs.

Bromyard were asked to bat first and captain Darren Lakin and Ben Schiffman again bowled very economically reducing Bromyard to 120-6 off 30 overs, but Scorer, Benbow and Paul Wittenbury had other ideas and scored 130 off the last 20 overs giving Bromyard 246-7 off their 50 overs.

Worcester Nomads were soon in trouble and started losing wickets at regular intervals and at 100-7 were looking defeat in the face.

Roger Dixon and Matt Ormerod had other ideas and almost saw Nomads to a losing draw but lost the last wicket with five overs remaining leaving Nomads 190 all out.

The 2nd XI faired a lot better winning by 121 runs. Nomads batted first and were given a solid start by Chris Bland (47) and Dave Finbow (44) and this run feast was continued by James Smith (72no), Paddy Clear and Steve Butts giving Nomads a final score of 237-3 off 50 overs.

Bromyard 2nd XI lost wickets from the start, a controlled opening spell from Paul Ranscombe set the ball rolling and reduced Bromyard to 116 all out.

On Sunday Nomads 1st XI entertained Kays CC and made amends from the previous day.

Malcolm Jones (104no) and Andy Leach (88) put on 140 for the first wicket, Mike Wilkinson (42no) then assisted Jones and they put on an undefeated 100 for the third wicket giving Nomads a declared total of 266-2 off 37 overs.

Kays then batted and lost a couple of early wickets and were soon struggling at 60-4, but Russell Edwards and Kevin Ingram (56no) then made amends and put on 80 for the sixth wicket. Kays settled for the draw finishing on 166-6 off 43 overs.

For Nomads the wicket takers were James Smith (2-18), John Goodreds (2-41), Rowan Davison (1-16) and Christian Elsdon (1-20), also 12-year-old Toby Wilkinson made his debut for the senior side and bowled very well.
