A 110-year-old church in St George's, Worcester, has received a grant of £149,000 that will go towards replacing the leaking slate roof.
David Thorpe, a member the St George's CofE Church PCC, said they were delighted with the grant from English Heritage and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
"It is important that it is preserved as a building and as a place of worship," said Mr Thorpe, who is also acting chairman of the Friends of St George's Church group, set up to launch an appeal to raise the additional £96,000.
Mr Thorpe added that they would be applying to other organisations for grants as well as holding fund-raising activities within the parish.
