SO another survey suggests Upton has a traffic problem (Malvern Gazette, May 27).
Thirty-five years ago I lived in Tring, then a small Hertfordshire town with a real traffic problem, with two miles of traffic queuing to get through the High Street every summer weekend.
Upton traffic is rarely held up for more than a few minutes, so reducing on-street parking will do nothing for the town's economy and little for traffic.
The official mind only thinks about banning parking as a panacea. Taking a car space as about five metres, the loss of 75 metres represents 15 shopping cars - what will that do for the local shops? Let's hope the Chamber of Trade stands against another deluge of road paint and silly signs!
If the best the powers that be can produce as evidence is that a few pedestrians may have been clipped by wing mirrors, they should remember that the finest traffic calming is on-street parking - yellow lining creates a race track which is far worse.
